EDF and Naval Energies have announced the completion of the Paimpol-Bréhat tidal energy demonstration project, following successful deployment and data collection.
The Paimpol-Bréhat tidal energy demonstration project, led by EDF and Naval Energies has been drawn to a close, following the successful conclusion of the lesson learnt from construction, deployment and testing of the OpenHydro’s 16m turbines at the Brittany coast project location.
The turbines were deployed for a period of nine months during which time significant quantities of data were collected on the turbine operation and the structures associated with the deployment. Data on biofouling and corrosion, as well as on the performance of the turbines are now being analyzed to inform the next phase of the Open-Centre turbines industrialization.
In parallel to this project, the EDF Group and Naval Energies are progressing the Normandie Hydro pilot array, which aims to install seven tidal turbines in the Raz-Blanchard tidal race.
